The Christmas market of Amiens : a magical event

Midway between Calais and Paris, the biggest Christmas market in Northern France takes place in Amiens from 25 November to 31 December 2016, transforming the city’s pedestrianised centre into a fairytale scene.
The magical atmosphere is heightened by the addition of a seasonal sound-and-light show (1 Dec–1 Jan) using state-of-the-art technology to bring to colourful life the western facade of the city’s famous UNESCO-listed Gothic cathedral with its medieval sculptures.
The market’s 125-plus charming chalet-style stalls are the perfect place to source one-off Christmas presents and festive decorations, as well as local crafts and regional food. Family fun comes in the form of street performers, an illuminated big wheel, traditional carousels, ice-skating and a parade by Santa himself.

The original Christmas Market in the Art Deco city of ST-Quentin

Dotted with snow-covered fir trees to resemble a typical Alpine village, the Christmas market in the Art Deco city of Saint-Quentin to the east of Amiens runs from 3 December 2016 to 1 January 2017. Among its attractions for all the family are a glittering ice-skating rink, luge and ice-tubing tracks, an ice slide, a Santa’s grotto and a pets’ corner.
Around 50 stalls here sell everything from artisan Christmas decorations and hand-painted santons (Provençal nativity figurines) to gourmet regional specialities including locally produced champagne and tartes maroilles (cheese tart). And there are more gourmet delights in store in the market’s old-time tavern, where you can sample traditional soupe au caillou (soup simmered with a pebble) and warm up over a mug of hot chocolate or vin chaud.
