Concert atmosphere at the Main Square Festival at the Arras citadel

Live stars in Arras

The English group, Placebo, top of the bill at the 1st Main Square in 2004, performed in the famous Place d’Arras decorated by the Flemish baroque façades. An ideal setting for concerts which has since become increasingly famous with appearances by Depeche Mode, Muse, Coldplay...

Given the audience’s enthusiasm for the diversity of styles, the citadel, with a greater capacity, took over in 2010. The double stage, the Grand stage and the Green Room make room for more stars. It’s a juggling act to choose from the rich and varied programme. Hurry to reserve before it’s sold out. The next edition is another exciting one. A unique experience!

The Main Square: a festival in crescendo

Triumphantly, the organisers announce the stars one by one, creating increasing excitement amongst insiders. It has immediate effect. Good ideas and the right places to meet are exchanged on the networks. Crowds gather as soon as the tickets go on sale, and the precious places disappear quickly. So be ready. The Arras tourist office can give you information about hotels and guest houses. The campsite is nearby, and there are shuttles from the station. Campers pitch their tents - 11,000 people last year - and decorate the hippodrome with flowers. A new village comes to life with warm and shimmering colours, just like the atmosphere of the festival.

The crowd goes crazy for the Main Stage and the Green Room

135,000 people gather for 4 days to honour the legendary Main Square stages. First the headline acts: Muse, Lenny Kravitz, Pharrell Williams & Co. take to the main stage before a frenzied crowd. On the Green Room stage new talents are discovered. The group "The Arrogants", prize-winners of the Tremplin, a local performing arts competition, appeared there. They were quickly adopted by the crowd with joyous cries. Stay in touch and follow the festival Facebook page. A presenter recounts each day's events with interviews of the artists, and French and foreign visitors. That's where you learn that Lilly Wood & the Prick decided to dress up as young sailors before going on stage... But to really feel the atmosphere, watch the Mainsquare after-movie.
