Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Grâce

Cathedral (CAMBRAI)

Built between 1696 and 1702, the cathedral is a splendid example of classical religious architecture in the times of Louis XIV. After being burned down in 1859, it was restored by the architect Henri de Baralle who added the steeple. Inside, you can see preserved "trompe-l'œil" paintings by Antwerp painter Martin Geerarts, as well as the icon of Notre Dame de Grâce (Our Lady of Grace), worshipped in Cambrai since 1492. You can also visit the sumptuous tomb sculpted by David d'Angers, where rests Fénelon, a famous theologian and writer.
