Fort Vauban

  • Fort Vauban
    45 rue du Maréchal Foch
    62164 AMBLETEUSE

The fort overlooks the beach from its rocky promontory between the Slack estuary and the village. Designed by Vauban and built between 1684 and 1690, it consists of an artillery tower with a big circular casemate (strong vaulted room), encircled on the outside by a low level battery. This sea fort is one of the last of its kind on the Channel and North Sea coasts. It now houses an exhibition on the geographical history of the coast.
