Les Boves

Underground tunnels (ARRAS)

Spoken languages : anglais, allemand

The "Boves" are limestone quarries that were dug out under Arras from the 10th century. These underground passages, originally built for the hard labour of mining, were later used as cellars, warehouses for the town square's merchants, and then, during the Second World War, they acted as bomb shelters for the people of the city. A guided tour takes you around this underground world, telling its story through the centuries.
