Musée Jean et Denise Letaille Bullecourt 1917

Museum (BULLECOURT)

Throughout their lives, Jean and Denise Letaille, a farming couple in Bullecourt, have been collecting objects found in their fields and the surrounding countryside. They've built up an impressive collection of weapons and personal belongings of soldiers who fought on the front line: the objects found beside them after they fell at the two battles of Bullencourt during the Arras offensive in April and May 1917. These vestiges from the trenches, gathered together in the Letaille museum, bring to light an episode of the First World War that, though little-known, was one of the deadliest. They also unearth the story of the "Diggers", those brave Australian soldiers who'd come all the way from the other side of the world.
