Musée d'Histoire et d'Archéologie

Museum (HARNES)

  • Inspected and accredited by the French museum department (Service des Musées de France)

The history and archeaology museum is housed in a former Bourgeois residence from the late 19th-century that once belonged to senator and mayor André Déprez. New exhibition rooms were acquired in 2013. On display are objects found during archeaological excavations around the Harnes commune (Gallo Roman times and the Middle Ages). There are also all kinds of military items (helmets, medals, weapons, artillery items, uniforms, propaganda posters, archives, everyday objects, artworks, various documents, etc...) The museum is run by an association of veterans, the "Friends of old Harnes" who organise guided tours themed on the two World Wars: "Between trenches and barbed wire".
