At the heart of the Citadel...
The museum is named after its founder, Roger Rodière, who in 1935 decided to bring the historical and artistic wealth of this medieval town to the fore. Despite the looting that took place during the Second World War, the museum still contains rare archeological pieces from the Gallo-Roman and Merovingian periods, important fragments and a few wooden statues from churches that have long since disappeared. In 2009, the museum moved to new quarters, the Saint-Walloy mansion, a place whose prestige matches that of its religious art heritage, consisting of jewelry, sculptures, paintings and manuscripts spanning from the Middle Ages to the present day. A collection development policy was set up, and exhibitions organised. A few of the works are displayed inside the Citadel itself.
