The town of Desvres, on the heights of Boulogne, has been making earthenware since prehistoric times and, over the centuries, it has developed a specialisation in ceramic art. The former Maison de la Faïence was extended to house the new Musée de la Céramique, the only ceramics museum in the region. Through an interactive tour punctuated by stories and anecdotes, the secrets of ceramics are revealed and the manufacturing techniques explained. With vivid, colourful presentations, a mix of ancient and contemporary pieces, fun activities and modern technology like touch screens, the museum brings its collections to life in an entertaining and highly user-friendly way that perfectly matches the scientific content. Educational events, workshops and temporary exhibitions are put on all year round. The shop, open during museum opening hours, sells specialised ceramics pieces created by local artists.
