This museum in a former rectory is really an interpretation centre that tells the story of the age-old struggle between customs officers and smugglers. There is such an astonishing hotch-potch of objects you can only look on in wonder. What this exhibition exhibits,in fact, is the boundless ingenuosity and imagination people put into trying to deceive customs. Confrontations have at times been violent. After passing through another floor that displays Flemish traditions, the visit ends with a presentation of the new roles of customs following the abolition of border controls in 1993.
