Musée du Marbre et de la Pierre Bleue


During the whole of the 19th century, the town of Bellignies prospered and became known around the world, all thanks to marble. This museum traces the history of the marble industry and the exploitation of the quarries in the Avesnes area from the 19th century to the present day. Housed in a former marble works, the museum boasts a large collection of chimneys and clocks (over 100), sculptures, artworks and tools from the days before machines. Various archives and documents from that era reveal the realities of life at the marble works and the difficulties of the job.
