It’s not enough just to watch the Dunkerque Carnival – you have to throw yourself into it!

Famous both for bands and bedlam, Dunkerque Carnival isn’t an event - it’s an experience. Carnival fans all agree that this ‘organised chaos’ is far more than a simple show. It’s a major party aimed at recharging the batteries for the year ahead. Launched in the 17th century, the celebrations were linked to the festival of Mardi Gras as everyone enjoyed the countdown to Lent. Today the festivities pull in the crowds from far beyond Jean Bart’s home town, from Belgium and Great Britain.
